Excessive water consumption

I have an Irish Wolfhound that will drink almost an entire bowl of water each time she drinks unless I stop her. This started if I'm not mistaken just after having her spayed this past October. She is urinating about every 4 hours also.  Some basic info on her is : 1year old as of 03/07/2012 aprox. 120# I got her when she was 5 months old and she was fine except for being picky on what water and where she would drink it allergic to corn other than that in good health.

Hi -

I would start with the basics - a urinalysis and some blood work.  Rule out a urinary tract infection and some of the endocrine problems that can cause increased thirst and increased urination (addison's disease, diabetes, cushing's disease, primary kidney disease).  Getting some data should help you decide what to do next.

Good luck and let us know what happens!

Will do she needs to go in for shots soon so I'll ask the vet to look into urinalysis and blood work.

Thank you for the advice will let ya know what he results .are

Well we went to the vet had blood work done and a urinalysis, results came back as all good. Guess I'm just a worrier but better safe than sorry.

Thanks for the update!  I'm glad she's doing well.  I hope she has many years of good health ahead.
