IW Health Talk
8 month old Male with chronic "Pudding stools"
"Pudding stool," not my term. between Liquid and solid, no blood no mucous, and not all the time. Complete check for parasites both in house and sent out for more in depth screening. ALL neg. Vet thinks poss. food allergy, but can go days with perfectly fine movements. Put him on science diet Z/d. and he appears very lethargic. Did some research and found it has about as much nutritional value as styrofoam! Today I noticed a "Ping Pong" ball size mass on his lower neck to one side where torso meets. Emailed vet who said it might be a lymph node that is catching all the drainage and other things from his back teeth cutting coming in, said to watch for a week or so.
Rice always firms things up for a few days so starting tomorrow I am putting him on
1/4 White Rice
A tablespoon of canned Pumpkin
Omega fish oil to boost his immune system a little and hopefully solve lymph node.
Good Idea? New to IWs and want to do whatever I can for my 40th birthday present and newest best buddy.
My personal (and limited) experience has been that when my pups are getting too much food that they'll have softer stools. Cutting back on the amount they're getting usually clears things up for us. On the other hand, I have a Greyhound who had chronically loose stools, regardless of how much I fed him, until I removed all grains from his diet. Now he still has looser stools than the other dogs, but it did greatly improve the situation.
Of course, any number of things might cause loose stools, which is the frustrating part of trying to figure this problem out in any given situation. Hopefully others will have suggestions.
